Lake Superior Zoo
The Going Bananas Run is back for its third year, and in 2027, we’re taking the bananas somewhere new! Due to road construction impacting our previous course, this year’s Duluth race is moving to the Lake Superior Zoo.
The Going Bananas Run is a one-of-a-kind Duluth fun run where your speed helps raise money for a great cause. Every participant gets their very own banana suit to wear as they race through the course, making this an event that’s just as fun to watch as it is to run.
But there’s a catch. Two minutes after the bananas take off, we release The Gorilla. Beat The Gorilla to the finish line and you’ll earn a special prize while helping raise even more money for charity.
New course. Same ridiculous banana suits. Same Gorilla on your tail. Do you have what it takes to Beat The Gorilla?

The Exclusive Email Club to stay in the know for all things Going Bananas!
All racers arrive in their banana suits ready to take on the race course. Alone they are a lonely banana, but together the group is a mighty bunch! This is a mass start event with all bananas splitting at the gun start.
Two minutes after the bananas take off, we release The Gorillas. Dressed head to toe in gorilla suits, they have one objective: chase down and beat as many bananas as possible. Our Gorillas are mystery racers handpicked by the Going Bananas team, so you won’t know who you’re up against until race day.
If you have what it takes to beat the Gorillas $5 or $10 of your entry fee will be donated to a local charity dedicated to improving food security in the Twin Ports. You will also receive the Champions Pin showcasing your achievement
After the race join us for a celebration! We will have food, drinks, and more for ALL the bananas that came out to party. Grab yourself some Banana icecream, a tasty beer, or enjoy yourself a tasty banana
Registration is capped at 1500 registrants. Get a deal with your registration at only $35. This gets you your own banana suit, entry into the race, and more!

Supporting our community has been at the heart of the Going Bananas Run since day one. By participating in the Duluth race, you’re doing more than throwing on a banana suit and running from a Gorilla. You’re helping support local efforts to fight childhood food insecurity. A portion of every registration goes directly to a local nonprofit working to make sure kids and families throughout the Duluth community have access to the food they need.
Project Joy is a Duluth-based nonprofit organization dedicated to combating childhood hunger in the Northland. Established in memory of Patrick Plys, who inspired others by choosing joy even during his battle with brain cancer, the organization continues his legacy of community service. Through various fundraising efforts, including events like the ‘Channel Your Flannel’ fundraiser at the Duluth Curling Club, Project Joy raises awareness and funds to support local food programs. Notably, they have partnered with organizations such as the Union Gospel Mission, helping aid summer food initiatives for children. By engaging the community and collaborating with local businesses, Project Joy strives to ensure that no child in the region goes hungry.

The Going Bananas Run is Duluth’s most fun and unique way to race while raising money for a great cause. All participants wear a banana suit and run a “two-ish” mile course while being cheered on by fans. After 2 minutes, “The Gorilla” is released to chase the racers. If you beat “The Gorilla” to the finish line, you’ll earn a special prize, and donations will be made to a local food shelf in your honor!
It’s TOP SECRET. Our gorillas are a secret until post race.
Stick around until the end to witness the gorilla unveiling.
Strollers are allowed, as we believe all members of the bunch should be able to join.
We ask that strollers hang out in the back of the pack due to congestion.
Each participant will receive:
YES!
It wouldn’t be a banana run if you didn’t run in a banana suit.
Those who have done the race before have the option to reuse their banana suit and get a limited edition racing tee instead.
